Who we are
Founded
in 1993, Salamander Theatre evolved from the Young Audiences Program
at the Great Canadian Theatre Company and was created to bring professional
level theatrical performances and drama-in-education workshops to
children and youth of all ages, and to provide curriculum based
educational resources to teachers throughout the Ottawa region.
Today the company has expanded its scope and Salamander's professional artists regularly perform throughout Ontario
and Quebec. Salamander brings top quality shows to school, festival and community settings, and also provides a host
of adult and youth classes, long-term training projects, and issue related forum theatre projects with marginalized communities.

What we do
Salamander
Theatre for Young Audiences is the national capital region's popular
touring resource for theatre and arts-in-education. We present professional
performances at schools, festivals and communities, and provide
valuable arts resources to teachers. Since 1993, Salamander artists
have been dedicated to helping youth transform experiences to artistic
expression.
Shakespeare, Broadway, and historical writing camps give children,
teens and adults the opportunity to obtain professional level training
in a relaxed atmosphere each summer. Salamander's professional artists
also offer pre-professional training courses to a handful of high
school, college and university students each spring which culminates
with public performances by the Shakespeare Young Company during
July and August. Fall and winter usually sees the company running
after-school and evening courses for budding thespians of all ages.
